Milk Carton/Fuel Container Trash Bins

For my final project for my Materials class, I needed to create a new design for a trash bin and make three scale models of the trash bins with a minimum height of 6''. The design needed to show special features for the types of trash that are disposed in each bin. The professor liked a sketch I did of a milk carton design, and he told me to use brand labels to show the function of each bin. Here we see trash bins for paper, kitchen organics (or food waste), and plastics.

The boxes and lids were all made of cut illustration boards and connected together by strips of rubber foam. The handles on the lids were made of four small pieces of illustration board all cut in the same shape and stuck together to create more depth and thickness. The printed labels and textures were attached to the sides of the trash bins before the edges of the boxes, the handles and top of the lids were all painted with acrylic paint. The openings in the front were then painted and also made of rubber foam.
